GRB Redshift determination in the X–ray band

چکیده

If γ−ray bursts originate in dense stellar forming regions, the interstellar material can imprint detectable absorption features on the observed X–ray spectrum. Such features can be detected by existing and planned X–ray satellites, as long as the X–ray afterglow is observed after a few minutes from the burst. Detection of these X–ray features will make possible the determination of the redshift of γ−ray bursts even when their optical afterglows are severely dimmed by extinction. For further detail see Ghisellini et al. (1999).

The Host Galaxy of Grb 971214

GRB 971214 is the third gamma ray burst for which an optical afterglow has been detected. I show that the spectrum of this afterglow (optical and X-ray) is inconsistent with the relativistic blast-wave model unless a significant source of extinction is introduced. Assuming that a single absorber exists at redshift z, I find that its V -band absorption magnitude at this redshift is AV (z) = 1.00...

The host of GRB / XRF 030528 - an actively star forming galaxy at z = 0 . 782 ⋆

An important parameter for the distinction of X-ray flashes, X-ray rich bursts and Gamma-ray bursts in the rest frame is the distance to the explosion site. Here we report on the spectroscopic redshift determination of the host galaxy of XRF/GRB 030528 using the ESO VLT FORS2 instrument. From the strong oxygen and hydrogen emission lines the redshift was measured to be z=0.782±0.001. Obtaining ...

The UVOT telescope on the Swift observatory has detected optical afterglow emission from GRB 050319. The flux declines with a power law slope of α = −0.57 between the start of observations some 230 seconds after the burst onset (90s after the burst trigger) until it faded below the sensitivity threshold of the instrument after ∼ 5 × 10s. There is no evidence for the rapidly declining component ...

Discovery of the Near-IR Afterglow and of the Host of GRB 030528

The rapid dissemination of an arcmin-sized HETE-2 localization of the long-duration X-ray flash GRB 030528 led to a ground-based multi-observatory follow-up campaign. We report the discovery of the near-IR afterglow, and also describe the detection of the underlying host galaxy in the optical and near-IR bands. The afterglow is classified as “optically dark” as it was not detected in the optica...
